"PASSPORT TO JOURNAL"

Mixed Media Workshop with Orly Avineri.

The practice of Visual Journaling cultivates insight into the nature of the creative process and its multiple meanings. Enriched by self trust and acceptance, paper, fabric, paint, words, pen, and line entwine to make expressive complex intimate books. It's all about one's willingness to be vulnerable and raw for the sake of true freedom. Experiencing deep, honest, personal journeys and true connection to a world outside of us takes precedence over producing beautiful ‘pictures’. Ultimately, Visual Journaling is about depicting the fluidity of life, about effortlessly carrying one's self from one place to another and immersing one’s self right in the middle of humanity, vibrantly, passionately, and compassionately.

Bring with you an old passport that belonged to you or someone else, to an old family member, or to a complete stranger. You will turn it into a voluminous visual journal, rich with your colors and textures, and packed with personal imagery. Trek through your intimate stories and make room on your pages for new ones. Honor its bearer’s life whether you know/knew that person or not. Be inspired by its stories and histories. Strip it from its formality by adding your own biographical anecdotes. Allow for playfulness and for the interplay between the concealing and revealing of visual and emotional information. Permit a spontaneous and sensorial celebration.

With the help of gentle and fresh multiple prompts we’ll satisfy our undeniable wish to explore our past paths and witness our constant onward movement, to discover and expand through a tactile, sensorial, and honest creative gestures. Our days together will end with rich voluminous personal journals filled with awe and wonderment, warm nests of gatherings to be cradled in the palm of our hands and then surrendered temporarily to become part of a collective altar, a one of a kind offering to each other, a sanctuary, a place of safety and comfort, a testament to our deep need to gather and connect to a world larger than our own.

"I GREW UP IN THE DESERT IN SOUTHERN ISRAEL, WHERE VIVID VISUAL AND MENTAL IMAGES OF NOMADS, SAND STORMS AND NATURALLY DYED CAMEL, SHEEP, AND GOAT YARN WERE WOVEN INTO EVERY CELL OF MY BODY. TO THIS DAY THEY DWELL IN MY BONES.

IT TOUCHES MY STILLNESS TO REMEMBER MY FATHER HUMBLY TEACHING ME ABOUT THE PROFOUNDNESS AND THE RESPONSIBILITY OF BEING HUMAN. ABOUT LAND, AN UNSPOKEN BOND, ABOUT LONGING AND BELONGING, AND ALSO ABOUT A DREAM. A DREAM TO BE TAKEN AWAY WILLINGLY BY THE WIND, WITH NO HINT OF RESISTANCE... LIKE A TUMBLEWEED. THIS FOR ME IS SUCH A DREAM!"

Craft villages of Kutch

For centuries, the craftsmen and craftswomen of Kutch – one of India’s richest areas for handicrafts – have perfected their craft, creating remarkably fine textiles of superb quality. But that’s not all. The village communities, scattered around the arid province, also specialise in wood carving, block printing, pottery, bell making and more. Using the capital of Bhuj as our springboard, we will engage with like-minded creative souls and embrace this rich and diverse culture.

The experience is friendly and laid back with exchanges of ideas and connections with the locals. You will learn and participate in hands-on learning workshops and demonstrations and explore this destination in a unique way. We will incorporate as much as we can including a local culinary class, markets, museums and a an Ayurvedic massage experience for any souls that are interested in this ancient tradition.

Your journey begins when you sign up. It starts with dreaming, travel planning, and collecting your supplies, it is all part of this magical Art of Travel journey.

If you are not open to spontaneity, whims of the group or if you prefer structure this may be not be for you. We believe going with the flow and being open to impromptu experiences that come our way and set the tone for the many heart warming adventures we will share. We will draw inspiration from the heart and soul that are always waiting open armed in India. Together we will soak in all the colours, textures and traditions and her people. Bearing witness to the beauty of living in the present moment-our time together will flourish as life will in person; in the rich care and respect of each other.

NOTES FROM MICHELLE

  • You are required to get a TOURIST VISA for India.

  • You are required to get travel medical insurance, there are many companies but I use World Nomad.

  • India can be overwhelming for the first time visitor. It is not for the traveler who is not open to cultures, plans delayed, or a schedule which may shift completely. Flexibility is essential and participants should not be fearful travellers. In a country of one billion-strong-and-growing, you will likely feel disoriented and overwhelmed, but that's part of the experience and fun.

  • If you prefer a journey free of hassle and without being hectic - this may not be the adventure for you. Patience is a virtue in India.

  • This area of India has a limited amount of lodging that can service a group requiring twin beds so I have had to make the decision to choose a rather functional rather than a heritage place to accommodate the guests on this journey.

  • This is for the calm traveler, the person who wants to travel to India with the safety of a group - but it is also for the adventurer, the person who wants to feel all their senses in this amazing country.

  • If you have specific allergies (i.e. peanuts, wheat, gluten, dairy, etc.), it will be harder, but not impossible, for you to find food that suits your needs. Many dishes are prepared with garlic, dairy and yogurt are often used to temper the spicier dishes. We are unable to cater to any specific dietary issues - you will need to manage this. All meals will have vegetarian courses.

  • Consult a doctor, nurse or health care provider, or visit a travel health clinic preferably six weeks before you travel. (side note: If you have any pending health concerns you should contact your health care provider prior to registration)

Should you have any questions prior to registration please email your me HERE.
